Going to war with Iraq. The right thing?

I know these Blog-a-doodles are something of a phenomenon, but until today I had not seen fit to create/reply/read a blog. There is so many topics of social, cultural, political, global significance that where does one actually begin a blog. Well, since CNN seems fit to dictate the thoughts and opinions of the American people, I will appease there hunger for assimilation and comment on the War in Iraq. First, let me say that I believe that despite the fact that there are undeniable economic reasons for going to war with Iraq, I do not believe these are the driving forces. Call me naive, but I feel that ours (the United States of America) is a righteous cause. I will always choose to support any plan which has as it's primary objective, giving freedom to a people who are so deprived of it that they don't even fully realize the impact of such a small word. Can I find a handful of things that we have done wrong in relation to the war in Iraq? Of course I can. Is it important that our focus should be on a transition of power and autonomy to the people of Iraq? Of course it is. Some (Blind Democrat supporters) will argue that we were deceived and giving a Christmas stocking (Sorry Democrats for the Religious touch) full of lies. #1. Saddam Hussein violated UN resolution after Resolution and was given second chance after third after fourth. In the end it was the Bush administration and the United States military that was willing to DO what the UN was only willing to SAY they would do. #2- There is also an argument that the primary lure to the American people for going to war with Iraq was the impending doom that would result from the use of WMD's in possession by Iraq, which turned out not to be true. First lets use the term "not true" very loosely because a) Republican AND democrats alike choose to go to war on specific intelligence that turned out to be false. b) Do not ignore the fact that although those specific weapons were not found, there have been more then a handful of such weapons found in Iraq during the past 4 + years and c) please do not ignore the undeniable fact that if left in power, Saddam Hussein would have continued an active hunt to obtain WMD's and you are only fooling yourself if you believe that given the opportunity he would not have used them against the US or other western nations. And not only would he have used them, but he would have used them not as a military tool, but as a killing device of innocent people. Mothers, sisters daughters and the like. You may bash Bush and the decisions of his administration today with honest conviction, but I believe that history will show that at a pivotal time in history that he and the United States took a stand to ensure the safety of the world. And since I just noticed that I am getting a little long winded and could probably go on for quite a while, I will go ahead and bring my first blog posting to an end. I am hopeful that I will receive some replies in the spirit of open debate. stay tuned for future topics like: Homosexual Marriage, Barry Bonds, The harm being caused by the American Political System, and life after gastric by-pass surgery. Take care. Scott

You should have started with homosexual marriage.

President Bush has failed in bringing together the US in the Irag matter. He has failed b/c he has not communicated effectively what the objectives are and what short-term and long-term interests justify the deaths caused by the ongoing battles.

More capable leaders around the world are more likely to come in control of WMDs quicker than Saddam and are just as likely to use them against others. North Korea is an example of such a country. Keep in mind, any country that uses WMD's against the US knows they face total destruction. The deterrent effect of our military power should not be underestimated.

The truth is the US wouldn't be interested in Iraq if it didn't have oil and any argument directing the motives elsewhere will weaken, if you question the fabric of the premises supporting those arguments (including possession of WMD's).

I believe the Iraq war which is sold as a war on terror will be seen as a economically motivated war by historians.

Don't get me wrong. Looking at the situation today tells me that we chose the weaker and possibly less threatening member of the "Axis of Evil" to go to war with. North Korea obviously did not make Santa's nice list and Ahmadinejad frankly scares the bajeezus out of me. And that is not to mention that nut job down there running Venezuela. And of course all of this means that the US could likely spend the rest of eternity engaging in wars against countries who threaten the peace of the world. Frankly however, that is a responsibility that we volunteered for when we became THE SUPERPOWER of the world. "All it takes for evil to succeed, is for good men to do nothing." I knew getting into this conversation that it would be difficult to claim a moral obligation to be in Iraq, when the administration's cronies are becoming gazillionaires because of being awarded oil contracts (in addition to other sectors) in Iraq. But all of those things that the Democrats use to crucify Bush (fake war, Cronyism, bad grammar, etc.) do not change the fact the Saddam was MURDURING hundreds of thousands of innocent people from his own country and exposed the ineffectiveness of the UN who was not willing to hold him accountable for the resolutions that were unanimously passed by all these countries who are now crying and whining. The world is a better and safer place because of the US's involvement in Iraq. And by the way, it is the media who has failed to bring America together. I can't understand how we continue to allow the media outlets to paint an inaccurate picture of what is happening in Iraq. We are saturated with columns, photographs and videos of car bombs, prisoner abuse, deceased and/or wounded soldiers and political malcontent. There is nothing about the thousands of schools that have been built or that 90% of children are attending or that the unemployment is lower then anytime in the past x # of decades. Nothing of the daily improvements to social infrastructure and that people are getting water and electric service who have NEVER had it before. That is not to say that opposition to the war and/or the Bush administration would disappear, but at least it would be based on the whole picture and not just what those who stand to gain from Bush-Bashing want us to see.
